EPC projects involve Engineering, Procurement and Construction phases and are specific for facilities construction contracts in various industries. The EPC is preceded by FEED phase (Front End Engineering Design). During EPC, also referred as execution phase, the contractor will manage and provide the detail engineering, procurement of the necessary equipment and materials, the construction, and, depending on the scope, the installation, commissioning and start-up of the facility or asset.

The contractor can contract subcontractors and vendors. The contractor will have to manage the interfaces between the client and the contractor, between the contractor and the subcontractors, and between the subcontractors. The contractor will report the project status to the client on a regular basis. Depending on the project size and scope, the project can easily reach an international level.
A Project Management Team is to be mobilized at the contractor premises. The team have to monitor and control the project across all the project phases in aspects regarding contract management, cost control, project planning, interface management, risk management, progress monitoring, document controlling, project status reporting.
Frequently, there are assets that have to be split in several EPC contracts. The client in this case will have its own Project Management Team that has to integrate each individual EPC project to obtain a complete picture of the asset construction.
